In 1898, Wm. J. Johnson wrote, “June 1, 1805 eighteen members were dismissed from [Hazel Creek] church to form Midway Church, now Monticello.”
Between 1805 and 1898, Monticello had met in at least three locations, had seen its membership increase to 194, and had witnessed 453 baptisms. Midway changed names to Point Pleasant in 1837 and then to Monticello in 1839.
Change is a part of any enduring church, and we have seen many changes. However, we haven’t changed our message: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,” nor our mission, “to make disciples of all nations.”
